"One of the great advantages of being no longer young is that one can actually say what one REALLY thinks."
Then why didn't you just tell your friend what you really thought instead of never talking to him again. Surely if you took offence to it you would tell him your reasons.
I just find it strange one is prepared to lose a friend over a joke like this.
And I don't need your family history now to defend your argument in an attempt to portray me as insensitive. I'm sure no one who knew you joked about the death of your family member and I am sure no one would find any humour in it.
All I am saying is, you are prepared to lose a friend over a joke which had nothing to do with you at all. We've all lost people in tragic circumstances. A family member whilst only 8 was hit by a car and killed whilst coming out behind a Mr Whippy truck. If someone made a joke about the Indian Ocean, I am going to lose a friend over it. And if the do, I just text back "Unfunny!!!!" or say "I don't see the humour in it". But losing a friend over it???
