what you need to ask yourself WAG, is why do gaps appear? if it is because of irrational exhuberance, or a clever pump, with no fundamental basis for the gap and subsequent inflated sp to have appeared - then, since the sp rise was based on nothing but herd following, of course the market will eventually reclaim that territory and the gap will be filled.
