Good grief, I never said they weren't great people, just not necessarily the best for the job! Have you never worked with someone who has a great attitude, but just weren't quite up to what they were supposed to be doing?
How do you know that a competent mechanical engineer wouldn't have sorted out the crusher in a couple of weeks on a FIFO contract? We don't know if the local workforce are competent, or just enthusiastic.
But CDU WON'T bring in the specialists when required, unless they want to live in the 'curry. WM has made that quite clear. Specialists will be required full time to run the plant and the power stations, especially in the commissioning stage and for the first year or two thereafter.
Quite honestly I'd be wary of working for a company that has policies like that. Fortunately I don't think I'll be in the position of having to explain to my wife why we aren't moving to the 'curry anyway!
