mm, isn't it funny: the thread is discussion about raising the retirement age from 67 to 70 (in stepped stages) and considering this is the economics forum for HC there has been very little posted about the economics surrounding this prospect.
It all tends to go towards personal bias or politics.
As I previously posted, if seen from a fundamental economic point of view there needs to be a change in the way aged pensions are provided.
There are a couple of certainties:
our workforce will shrink in years ahead
the number of retirees will increase
our economy will change quite dramatically
if something isn't done to address the problems of the above we will all suffer.
Lifting the pension age is but a part of the changes required.
