To my guess??In recent weeks/months the share price has been shorted something savage.For those watching regularly,the price was being driven on very large parcels with great momentum,exciting others,only to be dumped prior to close (early afternoon)receding the share price.This was very regular, probably every second day.
The player/players dropping the share price have got a tremendous amount of shares to offload,as the fill to sell on recent days,is brutal and relentless.The pattern to the sell off is constant,with minor interst to fill,and then another massive dump, dropping the share price .01 cent at a time ,open to close.The action of the sell, on very high volume are not your small time punters, concerned about the drill results, or bailing for a small profit.
Back to my guess??Shorting has been ripe across the whole of the asx, due to market uncertainties. With Far I feel, the short sell off is due to the partial, or semi success in Kenya, which shorters would have banked on failure, and the very near spud of the Senegal wells,leaving them to position out.
The high rise in share price on massive volume early February, warranted the professionals with endless bank accounts to short the stock once interest dropped.These same shorters could also be hedging their longs in case of a Senegal success, which they can carry risk.
What mystifies me.Even in the event of a short sell off,where have all the buyers gone.Very reserved,from everyday traders,to large brokerage firms, appear not to see a potential bargain.Risks are no longer appealing, and the value of the hard earned has dollar become sacred.I'm prepared to ride the the doube edged sword.With Kenya already proven to be a potentially decent gas/oil proven territory , and the free carry of $200 million being spent in Senegal free carried,the upside to downside component of the gamble/risk is truly mouthwatering.
