Hmmm. The thought of Australia as a Republic, especially the Keating Banana version always gave me heebie jeebies.
Note when Australia was facing off with Indonesia over East Timor, and Clinton was busy with his marinated cigars, it was Tony Blair (much as I dislike him) , who jumped in saying "we're in".
The Monarchy system has worked well till now...IMO.
