Chalco,
What I should have put is that the shallow bedrock drilling has only extended 1 metre past the regolith and that Wilgar will join Las Minerale, Rocklands South , Rocklands Central and Le Meridian as another open cut.
Open cuts with exposure of minerals virtually on the surface or close to the surface are a much more favoured operation expense wise and safety wise than underground mining.
Those supposed voids at Las Minerale that are now proving to host valuable ore may have been missed in an underground mining operation as would have the ore not captured in the drilling.
The 2010 video "There is something big under there" as relating to native copper nuggets is worth revisiting .
Even the more reliable diamond drilling failed to capture all the ore in the clay soils .
This is all good news to the prosperity of the mining of Rocklands.
There is more ore to be treated and less waste to be disposed of meaning lower cost and more profitable mining.
