Interesting points raised by Poyndexter and jwfc, though Second was way off the mark. Agree with Poyndexter that a gas and renewables combo is the best option while the technology behind renewables catches up to energy demand, but there is still nowhere near enough regulation, or evidence, long-term studies etc. to declare fracking safe to proceed, without risking damage (which might only become apparent in years to come) to farmland and the pollution of waterways. Santos have twice been found to have polluted aquifers this year alone, in NSW, and been fined a pathetically insignificant $1500 for it, so the NSW government clearly isn't willing or able to prevent further pollution... with that considered you can't blame protestors for having the guts to stand up for themselves and their land. The fact that they are still there as the weather gets colder, as a few of the less intelligent and balanced posters are gloating about, proves false the assertation that they are just "lazy lobless hippies" who want to have a baseless crack at the system.
