Given the success and growth of the International Business of ANZ,as announced in their recent profit result,I would not be surprised if WBC became much more serious in expanding off-shore,not to the mature markets, but to the growth pockets of Asia.Organic growth would be too slow and incremental,so possibly an acquisition.The previous CFO of WBC now has a strategic planning role,so who knows.
I cannot see any suitable targets in Australia,given ACCC concerns and the size of WBC ($108bill. MKT cap)
The Federal budget and the "Son of Wallis" inquiry led by David Murray will need to be reviewed prior to any move I feel.
