Good story, the things you learn from people if you only talk to them.
My story
A couple of years ago I was holidaying at Yamba on the Northern NSW coast.
I went down to a café near the corner of the main street.
As I sat and waited for my breakfast their were to old guys at the next table talking about the Nuclear tests at the Montebello Islands off the coast of West Australia.
I started talking to them and it turns out they were sailors on a warship during the nuclear tests. I found out all about the Montebello Nuclear tests and it was very disturbing to talk to these guys that had been through that awful testing.
It turns out there weren't many of those sailors still alive as a lot of them had died from diseases and cancers.
One of these old guys had cancer and he didn't expect to live more than a couple of years. None of those people ever got any payout from the British or Australian governments.
The thing is you never really understand the reality of past events until you talk to the survivors.
I often talk to strangers.
