I find the concerted vitriolic campaign against Negative Gearing to be a little strange.
We know there were/are Labor staffers planting stories to support their party. Have we the same for the Liberals to boost the support for this idea.
This is something that happens thru-out the world on chat sites.
Maybe someone can explain
If NG is banned and I run a Property Fund which builds property for sale and owns rental properties does that mean that any costs relating to costs of those rental properties is not allowed as a tax deduction to the company as a whole?
Is a company such as AMP which has property investments in the same category that it is unable to reduce it's tax by the value of the expenses in their rental properties
If they are allowed then why am I not allowed
The tax department considers you to be a business if you are not a 100% payee taxpayer so costs to a business are always deductible, the same as tools of trade etc.
This whole augment has never made sense to me.
This is apart from the effect on the stock of rental properties, regardless of whether the ban is on new stock or not the effect will be the same eventually. The government housing is a disaster and they are all trying to find ways to get out of it, now they are talking of getting rid of the Defense Housing which is another inroad into the property investor market
If I am unable to make a profit on my investment property due to the cancelling of tax deductions I have to increase the rent or sell the property. It is that simple.
We all know that Australia's tax system is a dogs breakfast but to take an isolated section and move the goal posts is not the answer
