    Agree Moreforme.

I am just stunned that the Government hasn't pegged the Biotech sector for massive government intervention.

Australia quite frankly has been one of the leaders in the Biotech field since it was a niche idea back in the day.

Some of the best biotech ideas have come from Australia but the commercialization and profits have gone to America.
    Gardasil etc etc etc.

I understand Australia just doesn't have the domestic base so it totally makes sense to commercialize elsewhere.
This is where the government SHOULD step in to provide massive incentives to setup manufacturing here, R&D etc etc etc

But no, because they are so economically dry they are a bunch of fossils. Other governments with a modicum of sense intervene in private sectors where its become apparent intervention would benefit.
I don't agree with intervention where its unclear if its a market that will bear fruit but Biotech is OBVIOUSLY a skill we have in Australia with companies like CSL proving the point.

We should have had aggressive intervention in this sector since the late 90's.
Might have seen a lot of great ideas turn into global player Aussie companies or niche global players in a particular segment.

I look at companies like Bristol Myers-Squibb who have a pharma manufacturing facility here in melbourne and I think BMS did that because it made commercial sense but I doubt they will keep it here much longer but who knows.
Imagine what melborune (which is the home of biotech) could have been had the government put serious $$$ and incentives into it.

Makes me sick to imagine the possibilities and extremely jealous as it would have helped my career considering I depend on this sector (pharma/med device/biotech) for employment.
If it were much larger than it is today I wouldn't have to keep going to F'ing sydney for work on the odd occasion because they "dont want me in melbourne".

    Grrr...
