I used to do this prior to the Wife having an income.
You pay $3000 after tax into your wife's Super - there is no 15% tax going as this is an after tax contribution - you have paid tax on the $3000.
You then get a $540 rebate (not tax deduction)
In my opinion, this and spouse splitting are very good super strategies for partners with out incomes.
