No - that's not what I'm trying to describe at all, or say for that matter.

    Go back, way back.

God is the Creator. There was never a starting point where God woke up one day and people started calling Him the Creator. He was the Creator without a beginning. He was the Creator, is the Creator, will be the Creator. If one can imagine a moment when God is not or was not the Creator, He is no longer Divine or transcendent from physical creation. Such a moment is inconceivable.

Right now Creation is taking place in every vibrating atom. Every combination of atoms is imbued with unlimited potential to do God's will.

Back in the Precambrian, some 540 million years ago and more, is when we begin to identify the Domain, Kingdom, Phylum. For the most part all Phylum looked kind of wormy, yet contained the specific characterises in a nascent form to become us, Chordata.

Now it is true that a monkey will never become a human, a pig will never become a dog, because that would be Creation (evolution) flowing backwards. However, from an amorphous beginning, the creature that began our Phylum was able to radiate off branches that led to bovine, canine, feline, equine and so on and so on. That is how common ancestry is arrived at. By going back to the branching off time before conformity was so fixed.

In the beginning a single organism gained characteristics and complexity and radiated off to become all the various species we see today as well as those contained in the fossil record.

Did this just happen - No. It was driven by a Divine Will.

Is this Creation - Yes. Though not the instantaneous kind as is believed by some via misinterpretation of ancient teachings.

Is this evolution - Yes, in the sense that a creature is able to adapt and change its form by degrees over long periods of time. But this is not chance. All potential was contained in the very first, most primitive expression of life form. Every possibility was preordained.

So arguments about Creation and Evolution is a moot point. Creation is the totality of the Universe conforming to a Divine Will. Evolution is a scientific description of a Divine process inherent in every combination of atoms.
