My gut feel is that if and when take over is apparent then other majors will emerge. On paper Kar must be worth 6-7, especially if P/north comes in. Conoco has always been the obvious candidate IMO due to the ease of monetisation of browse. If they can do a deal with Inpex and share the pipeline to Darwin (if technically possible) then it's very minimal capex to get this stuff to market and quickly.
They didn't want to know about 314 because they didn't need to. It weakened Kars position markedly.
I'd be surprised if this is a take over as the whispers would be deafening. Not long to go now, assuming there's no further extensions.
