China is Vietnam's second largest trading partner after the US with $50bn bilateral trade last year.
There is a massive amount of investment that has taken place in Vietnam by China over the last decade, with many business joint ventures and major infrastructure developments between the two countries.
Vietnam has a lot to lose if they don't try to ease tensions.
