no mention of dice --- yet

The Vic & Fed Gov's have today kicked off "The Brown Coal Pilbara"

Despite Greg Hunt recently saying Vic's brown coal and DICE were a potential "bonanza", thus far no mention of DICE when announcing Ignite and Coal Energy Australia's projects?

I don't get it. DICE should be the factor that makes the general public feel good about brown coal. There was a "buzz" around DICE at the recent Low Coal Symposium apparently.

Lots more news to come re brown coal in Vic and DICE IMO.

A deal for a third project is very close to being signed up and should be done in the coming weeks apparently. Obviously that's the Shanghai Electric project and whatever it entails. At this stage I'm not thinking it will be DICE related.

I can't help thinking back to GHD's mention of Mantle exporting 3mtpa out of Geelong at around the same time The Age revealed SE would be exporting around that amount out of Geelong. Maybe???

Then there's Exergen, who missed ALDP but have said they intend to demo at Energy Brix anyway, and as we've seen in all the recent DICEnet preso's, are still at the forefront of DICE/MRC.

According to today's media, 21 companies applied for ALDP.

The criteria made it clear that unless you had -

    Financial backing

    A coal supply agreement

    Off take agreement

    Site agreements

An end to end project plan including export etc.....

You were wasting your time even applying. So 21 Co's allegedly had all these factors in place?

How many others still may be viable even without ALDP?

And Mantle's JORC EL5210 with a "clean coal sold" deal has no takers?

Like I said, lots more brown coal news to follow over next few weeks IMO.

    B Rubes

Interestingly one of the Co's that missed has come out and said they were the preferred drying tech due to efficiency but missed out for other reasons.

Their chairman said - "“Upon reflection, this is an efficient Government at work, where those
projects that are sufficiently advanced and can be financed by the private sector are rejected for
taxpayer subsidy and those projects that require supplementary financing due to the heightened
technology risks are supported by the Government.”

In other words, the tech's that were rejected were actually in a better commercial position than the tech's that won, and it was only the tech's that really couldn't make it on their own that won Gov support.

Therefore IMO, there should be 18 other tech's looking to export brown coal from Vic that are better credentialed than Shanghai Electric, CEA and IER.

That's very good for Mantle and all it's brown coal

although I suspect the chairman had his tongue firmly in his cheek when making the above statement.
