It is probably not a good idea to pursue happiness. That it is a concern suggests unhappiness even depression. You may have to get treatment for depression and that can create problems. A person is out of step and wanting change they can make things worse.
Happiness is biological, though thoughts can influence biology.
In my opinion rather than seek happiness work on strengthening the spirit. What I mean by spirit is your mental strength. Many people find strength in prayer. In martial arts meditation is important. Being righteous and avoiding "sin" can make or is associated with character.
