So, what's the solution to the situation, now more common place than ever, it seems, where the Senate can block the legislation from a government that has been handed a strong electoral mandate for change?
It seems quite simple to me, but I'm not sure why the present situation exists, and what it will take to change it.
Probably a referendum, I suspect.
My solution?
The Senate gets a fixed three year term, just like the House of Reps...and.. the full Senate election should be held on the same day as the House of Reps election.
That way, the election of all Senators "should" reflect the mood of the electorate at the time.
Problem fixed....
