Cheers for the reply Doomtrader. I should clearly say that I do not have a background in O&G. J
You have led me on a merry chase as I decided to spend a little time reading up on Sub-salt plays and the Amadeus basin in general.
Firstly for those that like maps (me included), here is a clear example of your reference to Eastern Siberia as a similar sub-salt basin.
You also mentioned the Basin is riddled with big structures..
You also mentioned the results from Mt Kitty.
I was able to find the exact results for Magee to compare.
The Magee results are on the left.
I have to agree with you about CTP not being able to keep up with Santos in the long term, or Total for that matter either. I do however think that CTP has some wiggle room, as both the J/V have a long way to go before being completed, so CTPs carry in both is significant and some good results could change CTPs situation. I will add that pretty much every small cap with a large partner is in the same position.
Doom, Santos and Total will also assume operator-ship, so many of the issues you mentioned will be dealt with by them in the future, so I don't see them as being a big impediment. In regards to long term funding though I agree, CTP will sooner or later not be able to keep up. Perhaps RC has already got some ideas on how to tackle this? i.e, full farmout to Santos with a 5% royalty with a 10% ownership of conventional structures? (10 would be great, but probably would not happen). I am sure there are other options of course. Just an idea of mine.
I agree that Santos is in the drivers seat now that it has completed a huge amount of Seismic in the basin. I know seismic is not particularly exciting, but it is vital, as the past is basically nude of seismic. With all the data being collected, well planned exploration can finally resume after 51 years.
I think when RC took the job at CTP, he would have known very well, that CTP really is central to Aust, and pipelines will be built to join the major hubs. What better place to be that at the hub of all the hubs.
I know I keep going on about what other small caps are chasing, but CTP acreage, while remote, has advantages, particularly the shallow depth of its targets.
There is so much info out their on the Amadeus basin. I have included a couple of links below to those who might want to read more.
btw - slightly off topic, I did not realise the structure of Johnstone west was so large. Even if the structure is tight. It could have a huge OOIP.
