Avoiding hurt or arrest is not the definition of peaceful. Peaceful to me is to be devoid of turmoil, disagreement, commotion and disorder. Why would you need up to 800 riot police if you were looking at a peaceful situation? They weren't coming for a holiday.

COAL SEAM GAS - THE BENTLEY BLOCKADE
ASSAULT - PROTESTER CHARGED
A number of weeks ago, the anti coal seam gas protester appearing in the attached pictures assaulted me while I was taking photos at the Bentley blockade. I was standing beside my motorbike which was parked legally in a public area taking photos of some artwork at the time when a series of incidents leading to the assault occurred. It seems this guy missed the classes about non-violent direct action (NVDA).
The incident was recorded.

Further issues followed the assault which eventually resulted in a complaint being lodged with police. The footage was shown to police and they pursued the male to speak with him about the incident.

I was advised that police attended the Bentley blockade a number of times but were told by protesters that they did not know where the guy was or who he was. This was the case even though I saw the guy many times walking his dog between the blockaded gates at Bentley on subsequent visits. He even blurted out a few more insults directed at me on one of those occasions.

Police determined that the male lived in far north Queensland and was here for the protest and staying at Bentley. They were having considerable trouble tracking him down so they issued a wanted listing for him while considering whether to issue a warrant for his arrest for assault if they did not catch up with him. That would have been quite embarrassing for the protest if the confrontation with police went ahead with this guy present as he would have been arrested very publicly on a warrant.

Sadly I felt allowing this man to continue his involvement with the Bentley blockade was not reflective of the much publicised NVDA position that was constantly pushed to all watching the protest activity.

This morning I received information that police have finally caught up with the male and he has been charged with assault. He has been ordered to appear in court in July.

A conviction will put a lot of the ridiculous rumours being spread to rest but it will not change the minds of a lot of the haters.

Let justice prevail."
