VENTURE Minerals has started preliminary site works at its controversial Tarkine mine.
The development follows a win in the Federal Court against an appeal by environment group Save the Tarkine against federal approval of the iron ore mine, near Tullah.
Resources Minister Paul Harriss said: "There is still some work to do before a final decision is made to commence mining at Riley Creek, but I congratulate Venture Minerals on taking this very important step forward.''
"Under the Liberal government, the mining industry has a future and the North-West has a future.''
