"LAST time I wrote about Analytica’s PeriCoach device to treat female incontinence, a reader said I had been so obscure that she had no idea what it was.
So at the risk of being indelicate, it is a device that is inserted where the sun doesn’t shine, is linked by bluetooth to a smartphone application and takes the patient through a pelvic floor exercise regime that involves periods of squeezing and release.
PeriCoach is now being rolled out by incontinence physiotherapists and specialists and the early reports have been very positive.
Unlike many medical devices, this one is made right here in Australia and production can quickly be scaled up at minimal cost.
At the moment the production line can make 125,000 devices a year but that number can be doubled within a couple of months.
While pelvic floor exercises are hardly new, the advantage of PeriCoach is that the treating doctor knows whether the patient has been doing their exercises and can then diagnose some of the more serious causes of incontinence much earlier.
With incontinence a major cause of nursing home admission and impacting the lifestyle of an estimated one in three women, Analytica remains a speculative buy.
