A KAMIKAZE crocodile has launched itself from a flooded culvert drain at a passing vehicle.
"The croc just launched itself into the air with all four feet off the ground," Kakadu's crocodile expert Garry Lindner said.
Rangers have warned visitors to Kakadu to be wary of kamikaze crocodiles in light of the incident.
Mr Lindner was travelling along the Kakadu Highway 3km south of the Bowali Visitor Centre near Jabiru when the 2m saltie emerged from a drain and launched itself into the path of his 4WD last week.
"Unfortunately the driver had no time to react and the animal died on impact," Mr Lindner said.
He said it was the latest in a series of reports from drivers who have been confronted by crocodiles.
"Just last week another driver had to swerve to avoid a 3m crocodile and he's seen another large crocodile just off the road this morning," he said.
"Always expect a crocodile may be in the area. Some crocs move into well-known culvert fishing locations and remain there for the duration of the wet season."
