Have you ever met any one from the ME in particular Iran and got to really know them???
Yes there are fanatics in Iran but the country is by now means like Afganistan was and still is and yes there are ones there who would not doubt like to intorduce extreme views like Afganistan.
But there are also religious fanatics running and with power and influence in the west, just look at the mob running the White House and in other postions of power in the US.
We happen to have some very good friends who are Iranian they are highly educated and successful. They and their families were fairly wealthy but lost a lot of the wealth in the revolution during the 70's
They have spent a number of years living in the US in LA which apprently has a very large Iranian community and have lived in Australia for a number of years and have run very successful business both here and the US
They speak highly of Australia and the US but prefer to live here to the US. They would though prefer to live back in Iran and still spend some time there and the only reason they do not live there is due to their belief that the country is going to go through another revolution due to the amount of disencahanted young people there who are strongly opposed to the current leaders. some thing the religious fantics are using to their advantage but this is not the main issue by any means. but most of the oppostion is against teh strick religious rulers who are seen as corrupt and not in support of further religous rule
And if the country does not break out into a civil war, it will be attacked by the US and or Israel.
2 situations they do not (and with good reason) want to subject their children to.
They have stated the life style, health system, education system they would have in Iran is all compatible to Australia, having some wealth there would probably help but Iran is not alone in being a county where the wealthy do live a better live style than the not so wealthy.
They have stated the going opposition to the rulers of the counrty is due to the corruption and in opposition to the the religious interference - not in support of it. the population are educated and do no there counrty and in turn themselves should be a lot more wealthier and have better standards of living and would do if it was not for the corruption of the countires leaders. If any thing it is a desire to become more Western not less.
But this is their problem not a problem they want the US to come and resolve for them and have the US put in place a puppet government that is going to be just as corrupt. There is also a stong belief that the US does want to control their country and in turn their oil reserves and that they have a right to protect and defend their country any way they can.
They have the view that Iran has the right to have nuks to defend itself when faced with a threat from the US and the US and the rest of the west have no right to oppose this when Israel's nuk weapons are so blatantly ignored.
All of the above are not my views but the views of people who have first hand knowledge and experience of what is actually going on there. People who respect our way of life in the west and embrass it. People who are highly educated and inteligent and by no means in anty way shape or form radical in their views.
People whose views I would be more likely to accept than some of the un-inteligent narrow minded views posted here
