    slasher, I can see the point that you think AL is trying to make, but I think it is wrong, for the reasons outlined in my post. You can't have profit without tonnage throughput, and tonnage throughput costs money whether you extract the full suite or not.

    What she says sounds impressive and commonsensical, but I don't think she has grasped how the process works. And the phrase:

    “We are now working on delivering the optimal balance of volume, finished product quality and REO yield ..." means simply that it isn't working properly - period. If it was working to specification, it would be producing 11,000t (volume and yield) at the quality specified in the contracts signed from 2007 onwards.

    OK, so perhaps she has grasped how it is all not working, and is dressing up the fact that they can't achieve nameplate in a "this is the great new plan" sort of way.

    There is just no way that you can be more profitable producing from a lower tonnage than producing to the original specs at 11,000tpa. And if you think that it will be a better product achieving a premium price, then there is no reason why they couldn't have produced that product anyway from the 11,000tpa. And more of it!
