Pedroimn8, Your comment; "...The reality is that anyone who wants to get off their backside and have a go has the opportunity in Australia to be very successful ..." is a very loose and inaccurate generalisation in an area where the details are real PEOPLE.
Here are just three of the scores of examples I know of where PEOPLE cannot get a job through NO fault of their own but are not in a position to start up their own business:
. A 60 year old with outstanding qualifications telecommunications, a former businessman, a university double degree, owns his own small farm, has experience in town planning and even real estate. He's desperate to supplement his farm income and save for retirement but he doesn't even get interviewed.
. A 40 year old female who lost her low paying job due to closures in our auto industry and has a young family to support has nevertheless retrained herself and is qualified in multiple areas. She cannot get to the interview stage.
. A 25 year old fully qualified teacher has done school volunteer work for two years but can still only get occasional casual work as a teacher. She has almost NO prospect of getting even an extended teaching contract.
The denigration of such people as "leaners", "loafers" or "takers" is not only wrong its grossly unfair and says more about those doing the demonization that it does about people like those above. For arrogant toffs like Joe Hockey and Mathias Corman to sit with feet up and lit cigars in mouths to say such things is reprehensible.
