Atticuscat, to their credit and to your own, many people can recount personal stories of a long and hard working life - as the eldest in my family my own started at age 10 and I was only able to stay at school by winning scholarships and doing jobs including milking cows by hand, shovelling pigshit and stacking the local greengrocer's shelves!
Attributing hard work to 'success stories' like Kerry Stokes is little more than a put-down to all those very hard-working Australians who are the backbone of our country but not multi-millionaires.
But none of that gives us the right to denigrate people who have done their level best to participate in the Australian workforce but through NO fault of their own are being DENIED the opportunity to do so.
That failure rests with our economy, our prejudices and the rules devised by our pollies. It absolutely stinks that we have cowardly, cigar-smoking, silver-spoon, silver-tailed pollies denigrating fair dinkum Aussie battlers as "leaners", "loafers" and "takers" when nothing is further from the truth.
