Your self righteous views represent what to me is the ugly Australian. Life is simple. All you lazy scumbags need to do is get of your arses and work. Be like me because I am great and I know it all. I know all your problems (although I have never experienced them) and I know what you should do about them.

Well I've got news for you. Life is not that simple. We can't all succeed, we are not all as tough as you lot. The democratic capitalist system, good as it may be in comparison to others, is not perfect. Not all can be winners. People fall by the wayside for many, many reasons and those of us LUCKY enough to successfully negotiate life (the majority) should be empathetic and compassionate enough to provide support for the less fortunate (the minority) rather than get on our high horses and brag about our worth compared to theirs.

The difference in my philosophy compared to many here is that I regard social and economic disadvantage as products of a society rather than of individuals and therefore think the answers to such lie in changes to societal structures rather than blaming and demonising such individuals.

I was taught and accepted the old maxim 'there but for the grace of God (or chance if you are that way inclined) go I. We are all born equal, we all die equal and only our genetically inherited brains reacting to the external stimuli to which they are subjected throughout life, temporarily, modify that equality.
