China's treatment of its own people at times throughout its blood-stained history is well-known and well-documented. No-one disputes what has happened under its totalitarian regimes
Although China's government still tries to minimise the awareness of its own people of atrocities such as Tienneman Square, that is a world away from a country like Australia that would have everyone believe that our faeces doesn't stink when it comes to human rights' abuses.
Well our record is becoming increasingly tarnished under Tony Abbott's regime; from gifting naval patrol boats to a nation facing UN action over alleged war crimes and genocide to our mismanagement and denigration of asylum seekers and even our cuts, cuts, cuts to support for Aborigines and our ongoing denial of aboriginal history.
Indeed, as of this morning, our
minister responsible for Aboriginal affairs now needs to explain the termination of funding for the 'Deadly Awards' along with all the other cuts and broken promises in this highly sensitive area that is so important to the national psyche:
"Indigenous Australians are mourning the sudden death of pioneer producer Gavin Jones - and they are outraged by the cancellation of the Deadly Awards which he created - following government funding cuts. ..."
