    re: imu ...meerkat Meer,

Have to disagree with you statement below

    Quote
"as for the CSIRO beating birdflu, it's around a 1-2% chance as I see it. As you say, the world's biggest bio guns have been trained on flu for a very long time and have virtually got nowhere..."
    ............................................
Flu, as a viral infection in humans does have a solution whereby every year we all have our flu shots to protect us against the latest strain of flu.
Yes, the virus does mutate from time to time & there has to be a new batch made to cope with this latest strain.
It works, as you no doubt know, by boosting our inbuilt immune system so that it combats the flu virus if/when it comes along.

So the principle of immunology is sound.

Exactly the same principal to make a flu vaccine for birds.
And if the bird flu virus mutates...the same thing here too,..... a new batch is needed.

There has been a breakthrough overseas in a vaccine using adenovirus to produce a birdflu vaccine

    Read this

    http://www.cidrap.umn.edu/cidrap/content/influenza/panflu/news/feb0206adeno.html

    ...................................................
IMU have a patent on the bird adenovirus & it is indeed PROBABLE that they will produce a vaccine.

As per IMU s latest half yearly ann. they say they have several candidates to test

    Quote from ann.

"Of the several constructs under evaluation, the best performing candidates will
be tested in trials where the chickens will be infected with the avian flu virus.
This testing will be performed in the high security area of CSIRO's animal health
    centre during this year."
    ...............................................
So they have several irons in the fire to see which gives,.... not AN immune response.... the BEST immune response

Would seem to me their chances of success are a lot higher than the 1-2% you are quoting.

Like all biotec stuff, time is the essence, but in IMU s case, should be in next several months.

    Cheers,

    Bendigo
