That's because horrible events occur every day, of every year, and it is impossible to relate, emotionally, to every tragic event in the world. And especially if that event occurs in a country where tragedy is part of the normal way of life. The number of children that have suffered have made this event more poignant than usual.
For my personal perspective, I found the death of the grandfather together with his three grand children, very emotionally moving.
