The proposal to have those under 30 yo on the dole apply for 40 jobs per month each as a condition for receiving the dole payment is surely a misguided joke or total ineptitude on the part of the minister who has come up with it.
Some simple facts (and assumptions):
Total number of registered businesses in Australia at Dec. 2013 = 2.055 million
Total number of unemployed 15 to 24 years at Dec. 2011 = 0.270 million
Total number of unemployed 25 to 30 years in 2014 (assumed) = 0.130 million
40 Applications / Person under 30yo x 12 months = 480 apps/yr.
480 x 0.400 million = 192 million
192 / 2.055 = 93.4 applications per business per year
From 2011-2012 ABS Statistics - 39% of F/T unemployed do not have a literacy level 3 or above and 49% of F/T unemployed do not have a numeracy level 3 or above , one does not have to be a rocket scientist or chief economist to realize that this "initiative" will:
1. Decrease the dole payment burden on taxpayers
2. Increase exponentially the burden on small business of worthless time wasting applications and resumes so that dole recipients can "tick the box"
3. Increase exponentially the government expenditure on hiring additional staff for centrelink to try and administer this monster .
4. Increase the crime rate significantly as these people who do not "comply" seek easier forms of income through burglary , theft , fraud , assault , etc., etc.
5. Increase the cost to taxpayers for additional policing and hospitals ongoing care for crime victims , etc.
How about putting the horse before the cart and stimulate job growth and provide tax and business incentives to encourage businesses to grow and new entrepreneurs to have a go, thus providing the job opportunities first.
Then again , there are few (or no) politicians who have ever worked or spent any significant amount of time in private enterprise let alone run their own successful businesses.
