The Esperance wind turbines are on a fantastic site. Close to a prison as I recall. If the government does renege of the RET then I agree they would possibly not be replaced. The article indicated they would run for another 7 years past their 20 year design life.

In another 7 years I expect the situation will favour renewables. At least Tony's one term will be well and truly over but right now, his outfit is seriously damaging all sorts of smart industries including renewable energy.

I'm inclined to think that Photovoltaics have the edge over wind power but to a degree they are complementary. Wind blows when the sun don't shine and vice versa.

Thanks for posting the link. I hadn't read it before. Esperance is a lovely town and the nearby granite islands are great places to visit.

I will be very surprised if we build any more coal fired power plants. I agree, they are designed for a long life and any we build now would very likely be illegal to operate well before the end of their design life.
