So someone has played someone. Was it Thomas, Thompson and Promnitz that were not taking the Corporate advice from Empire and were behind the price collapse and hence Farley was asked to stay.

Note one thing, no handover period, they resigned and are gone same day, that means things have gone sour, really sour

I would speculate one of the following
1 - the major shareholders had a vote of no confidence for the above three and want blood
2 - In order to secure funding it was agreed the above three had to go
3 - Empire have a vision that was being hampered by the above three
4 - the above 3 were scapegoats and we are all going to get raped by the new guard
5 - the whole thing is a sophisticated con
6 - The locals don't want the above three involved for some reason

But most likely and let me read the tea leaves - Sophisticated investors have pumped in big money on the best thing since sliced bread and have seen the price down around 75% - Someone has to pay.

Now the announcement does say that negations are underway re funding, so unless its a lie, there is not talk of going into administration or liquidation. They clearly indicate funding is being worked out with a major shareholder, probably baker steel.
