we get the politicians we deserve.
While I disagree with the the policies of both parties and the vested interests they represent ( and advance) I find on both sides we have very affective politicians.
I am critical of Abbott's actions in opposition but one has to admire his political skills.The same can be said about Malcolm Frazer.He was a terrible leader for this country,but he was the most formidable politician I have ever seen.
These people are politicians not businessmen,so just as one would not expect a good businessman to be an effective politician one should not expect a good politician to be a good businessman.Different skill set.
The problem with politics is US the Australian people.We accept/permit vested interests to permeate our politics.We take sides at an early age and fail to even see the failures of our side.We treat our politics like its a sport where tribalism rules.So we give OUR side the right to tell fibs,kick heads,play dirty,etc,etc,etc.While we will proudly castigate the opposite side for a spelling mistake.
What is interesting to watch is the politicians and how their overall awareness is determined by how young they were when they chose the vacation.I use Joe Hockey here as an example.Up to a week ago he was scathing of the PUP party and its senators....only up to a week ago.Now he is best mates with them when he wants to get their votes.This week he is besties with Lambie .He is giving her kisses and cuddles and telling us what a lovely person she is.This friendly relationship will remain as long as Hockey needs pup votes.The cuddles will then turn to kicks.I dont think he would not try to ingratiate himself in this manner with another experienced politician.....it is the "wolf and the Lamb ie"
All long term politicians do this,from both sides ....its acceptable behavior.....its the norm for them.I don't think "normal" people would agree that type of behavior is acceptable outside of politics.
