Perhaps then, like Europe, our petrol & diesel prices should be taxed another 50c/litre to moderate use and balance our annual trade bill. Housing and some fresh foods are cheaper in the country so if we approve of subsidising the country areas with fuel then why not ask the country to subsitise our expensive housing. Unlike China we have the choice of living in the city or in the country.
Also house prices and home rental are much less in the country:
For example:
Location....................Median House Price........................Median Home Rent/wk
Brisbane.....................$707K.............................................$570
Warwick......................$259K............................................$260
So paladin, if you believe that country folk should pay the same price as city folk for petrol
then would you also advocate that they should pay the same mortgage payments and
home rentals too?
Location is a package deal and we should not cherry-pick the cost variables.
Cheers
