Assuming he was sober and licensed, adrenalin and shock may have set in with the driver. Wasn't he a local? - he would know the roads....looks like he was speeding to me. To slaughter so many people though and run could be construedas a fight or flee mechanism - at least that is what his defence counsel will argue as a hit and run has severe legal consequences, even of the kids were on the road. A driver who may not be at fault, can turn a tragic accident into a crime by leaving the scene.
The act of fleeing may deliver a manslaughter charge on him rather than causing death by dangerous driving. However, if he is been a chronic drink driving, unlicensed perpetrator, he is in even deeper.
There is doubt that all the shock jocks have just wet their pants as Australia magistrates don’t tend to lock them up for long periods of time..
