Alnylam has been dealing in siRNA, or double stranded RNAi, since the company's inception. Pre-miRNA, shRNA and dsRNA can all be processed by Dicer and Alnylam already has patents which cover RNAi triggers so I cannot see what KSS is going on about. The new patent may be of significance to other siRNA companies but I am not sure how it suddenly affects Benitec more than any other Alnylam patents. This KSS claim seems like more scaremongering to me.
