If you watch Highway Patrol, people who are clearly not smashed get heavier judgments that Meares got."

Why? She had one of the best lawyers, in the country, acting on her behalf. He felt sorry enough for her to do the work for no charge. Pretty certain that she had been drinking within the limits advised, but that that was too much for her (liver) 'body' and so she unknowingly fell on the wrong side of the breathalyser line. Who knows whether it was caused by the alcohol or just being a rotten or distracted driver. Let's face it, there are accidents every day on our roads from causes other than alcohol.

The 'stealing mail for a decade' is pretty far fetched though...not as if she couldn't afford to have a PO Box to stop the problem.
