re: weakness I think it is fair to say you have missed the point Weaknees and I say it in the nicest possible way. The problem with the Single Desk is that it 'politicizes' an industry. Over-regulation in an essentially deregulated market almost always winds itself into an untenable, complicated mess. If you prevent free market forces from prevailing, you are asking for trouble. It is not a wonder no young farmers are returning to the land as the acceptance by 'the mob' to new ideas to take industry forward could be described as disgraceful.
Over-regulation, in other words, politics is holding the grains industry back in the dark ages. I mean the Govt will never learn. Bloody Ian Donges to replace Lindberg. Yet another recycled agri-political figure. With the coming food boom I want to fully be able to exploit that and unfortunately others cannot see it coming because the big bear we've had for a good three years now has belted the confidence out of everyone. It is depressing to listen to people whinging about this year's budget outcomes and it is having a big impact on small communities. But I'd much rather focus on the positives headed our way and understand the importance of making hay while the sun shines. I am an optimist by nature which is probably quite strange when you consider I see the future I do see.
My great Aunty summed it up to me the other day. She HAD to TELL me that 'MY generation has had it easy and we are ill prepared for darker days ahead'. The average Joe would probably think she was nuts but I knew exactly what she was talking about because we are headed back to times of great uncertainty as the oil situation unfolds. She is completely correct. A shame when that generation goes as many essential survival skills will go with them.
