Mav, your argument is self-contradictory. The 'outposts' you mention wanted independence and they have just that in varying degrees, which they decided upon. Australia voted to keep the Queen. Scotland will be voting for independence soon and, if they vote 'yes' then they will be their own sovereign nation.
