My view on management is where we profoundly differ in our views...the best investors I have met after a working for a lifetime in the financial sector have often repeated the trite phrase that the 3 most important factors in successful investing are management, management and management. For starters, competent and astute executives most certainly would NOT involve themselves in "inherently poor quality businesses" Furthermore, how do you think that these blue chip concerns with which you are rather unfairly comparing MSB, develop their underlying business models and achieve their "hard to replicate competitive position" thus enabling them to "generate sustainable excess financial returns" ?........superior management, that's why. It is also how companies in a similar sector, such as banking or retailing, differentiate themselves from their opposition.
