Given the massive amount of money and notable names already in bitcoin, my feeling is that headlines like "Bank crackdown" attract attention, and have a positive effect. Everybody knows that bitcoin is a direct threat to the banks dominance and their massive fees, bonuses, and cash flow. Such headlines enhance the 'badboy' appeal of bitcoin to those who are at the forefront of technology. There is wide appeal in anything that challenges the banks' dominance and control. The genie is out of the bottle and the banks are trying to put it back in. Fail.
