    well, he did one big thing - he stopped conscription in it's tracks.

    No more mothers, girlfriends and sisters losing good young men to bullets and bombs with little choice in a war we shouldn't have been in in the first place.

    no matter what side of the political fence you sit on - that was an awful time and, it was Whitlam who stopped it.

    Lefties can be a bit weak at times - but righties often get us into wars we should just not be in.

    Mistakes in life are and will always be with us -- but, when those mistakes KILL people - they cannot be repaired.

    Whitlam did a good thing there and overturned a very bad decision.

    If the right side of politics wants to wage wars - let them send their own sons or themselves first.
