Lapdog, yes I have discussed this conundrum before. I have posted a lot in defense of mainstream Muslims in Australia and on this forum I have stood toe to toe with those who want to tar all Muslims with the same terrorist brush.....but we are in a situation now where our national security is threatened. ISIS has made a direct threat against parliament house. So far on this forum I have not given my opinion as to whether the burqa should be banned or not in parliament house. My opinion is that it should. But so as to not make the legislation look discriminatory I would also ban the balaclava , the motor bike helmet, stockings over the head and all rubber masks of US presidents like what Patrick Swayze used in the movie Point Break. In fact for security and not for religious reasons I would ban all face covering in parliament house. I would NOT ban the burqa as a standard piece of day to day dress for Islamic women if that is what they want to where because this argument really is NOT about religion....it is about security. Clearly not everyone who wears a balaclava or a motor bike helmet is a criminal and even people who wear stockings on their head may be on their way to a fancy dress party and burqa wearing women probably really are just conservative Islamic women.

But threats being what they are security is crucial. As much as I am a supporter of civil rights for Australian Muslims common sense needs also to be applied.
