Kmickel, most people realise that the first step to improvement is to stop doing what hasn't been effective or even counter-productive. We saw this play out in Vietnam wherein that country was bombed and defoliated back into the Stone Age to avoid the falling dominoes spread of Communism. Yet that 'coalition of the willing' still lost that long, dreadful and inhumane war because it turned out NOT to be about the spread of Communism at all.
Following the 911 atrocity and on the back of lies about WMDs, John Howard's 'Coalition of the Willing' invaded Iraq and Afghanistan. More than a decade later the Middle East has fulfilled Saddam Hussein's prophecy; the region has degenerated into a hell on Earth! Yet again, we supported a war we did not understand.
As with Vietnam and as of today NO national leader has been able to demonstrate understanding of the situation unfolding in the Middle East. Yet as with the Vietnam War, our leaders our proposing to bomb ISIL / IS / ISIS back into the Stone Age while some 53 million people are already displaced in this region and some 2.5millions of them are asylum seekers or refugees.
So what did we see on Day 1 of Tony Abbott's heroic mission to bomb terrorists to oblivion?
Well, it just didn't happen! We're told that the 'terrorists' changed tactics so that NO target was identified. But after something like 70 US airstrikes already the numbers of ISIL fighters is actually growing and the area they're impacting has actually expanded. What we're seeing from those nations attempting to counter ISIL / IS / ISIS are lots of startled rabbits caught in headlights!
