It's like that survey that said that 74% of Australians don't want nuclear power. First response was "wow - nuclear power is sure on the nose in Australia kore than the last group of surveys I saw.".

But the result was actually 74% don't want nuclear power IN Australia [not 74% of Australians don't support nuclear power]. Now *that* one made sense - Aussies are scared of the waste, and I get that. We shouldn;t be - we have what amounts to huge tracts of the most stable land in the world, but hey, as I said in a previous post, NIMBY is king in Australia..

It's all in the question, or the reporting of the question. Academics who push their low takeup personal line just get up my nose. It's a professional thing, tainted by some very senior science research/academic firends who had to survive the CSIRO purges during Rudd's time and refused to follow the Rudd party line on climate change and nuclear power [they were some of the many who refused to agree to put their names on the 'new Labor CSIRO front web page' if you are aware of what happened there]. Repeated attempts to explain that bushfires [or wildfires as the world bodies classify them] make up 97% of Australia's CO2 emissions just fell on deaf ears.
