Dis, it takes advanced equipment, isolation suits etc and experts to use it to be effective against Ebola. There's no reason why locals couldn't help but we're talking about some of the poorest nations on earth with virtually no health infrastructure. They need our experts to train them and that takes time so until they are ready our guys would need to carry the burden.
Those who believe that sealing the borders can solve the problem are naive. Borders leak and people who are desperate to leave will always find a way and that makes it even more dangerous as they will be escape the normal surveillance at airports etc.
Abbott is happy enough to use our military to train Iraqui and Kurdish fighters and risk the return of radicalised terrorists to Australia yet he won't do the same for Ebola where the risks are much greater.
