If you try and be a good person, and follow the teachings of Jesus, and ask Him for forgiveness, and pray to Him for strength and guidance, you will likely do mostly good in the world and largely be a good citizen.
And you just might get eternal life.
If you don't follow this way of life, you may or may not still do good in the world, and could also be a good citizen.
But you will not have eternal life. What a massive thing to lose.
I would go with it, just for that chance alone. What could be more precious or worthy to strive for?
If the whole thing is a scam, or there is no afterlife, no existence other than what we experience here on this Earth whilst we are alive, then there is nothing you, me or anyone else can do about it. We will all live, die and be obliterated for eternity.
We can be gone in an instant, so be prepared, one way or another!
